Hello everyone! How is it going recalling old times while travelling around the world in Nostalgia? It is indeed nostalgic, right? And talking about nostalgia, in this new entry I´m going to talk about yet another game that, just as the JRPG from the last entry for Nintendo DS, aims to pay tribute to the classic 8 and 16-bit games, drawing inspiration from them to deliver an adventure that will take us straight to the past of action games, and that belong to the recent wave of games brewed in the popular Kickstarter crowdfunding website like Shadowrun Returns, The Banner Saga, Pillars of Eternity, Shovel Knight, or the future Mighty No. 9, Shantae, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night or Torment: Tides of Numenera. The game is called Mercenary Kings. Let´s see what this adventure full of pixilated testosterone, bullets and blood has to offer.

¡Hola tod@s! ¿Qué tal os lo estáis pasando rememorando viejos tiempos mientras dais la vuelta al mundo con Nostalgia? Es realmente nostálgico, ¿verdad? Y hablando de nostalgia, en esta nueva entrada os traigo otro juego que, al igual que el JRPG de Nintendo DS de la última entrada, pretende rendir homenaje a los juegos clásicos de los 8 y 16 bits, inspirándose en ellos para ofrecernos una aventura que nos trasladará al pasado de los juegos de acción, y que pertenece a la reciente hornada de éxitos gestados en el popular portal de crowdfunding de Kickstarter como Shadowrun Returns, The Banner Saga, Pillars of Eternity, Shovel Knight, o los futuros Mighty No. 9, Shantae, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night o Torment: Tides of Numenera. El juego es cuestión se llama Mercenary Kings. Veamos qué nos ofrece esta aventura repleta de testosterona, sangre y balas pixeladas.

Hello everybody! After the last entry dedicated to the 2D fighting game Chaos Code for PS3 and arcades, in this entry I´m going to talk about a game that belongs to another of my favorite genres: the RPG, and more specifically about the Japanese version of this genre, known as JRPG. Although nowadays this genre is not as relevant as it once used to be (except for Japan, where this genre has always remained popular), probably due to the problems that many Japanese developers experienced in the late years adapting to the new platforms and the demands of a new public with new expectations, and to the rise of western RPG games such as Fable, Oblivion, Skyrim or Fallout 3, in the 8, 16 and 32-bit era the JRPG genre was one of the most prominent genres in the game industry, and in this genre we can find several games that have achieved the status of classics of the game industry such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, Illusion of Time, Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden, Vagrant Story, Wild Arms or the Tales Of series among many, many others. As I was saying, nowadays this genre is not as popular as it once was, playing a secondary role in the actual industry, with the exception of a few titans that still manage to gather the attention of the media and the public, such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, although this has not stopped the genre from delivering interesting new games from time to time, especially in the portable platforms, which seem to have become the new home for this kind of titles, and this specially true with the Nintendo DS, the console that received the latest entries of several important franchises of the genre such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Valkyrie Profile and Suikoden, as is precisely inside the catalog of Nintendo´s handheld that we can find the game I´m going to talk about in this new entry. The game is Nostalgia.

¡Hola a tod@s! Tras la última entrada dedica al juego de combates en 2D Chaos Code para PS3 y recreativas, en esta nueva entrega os voy a hablar de un juego que pertenece a otro de mis géneros favoritos: el RPG, y más en concreto a su vertiente japonesa, conocida como JRPG. Aunque, a excepción de Japón, donde el género siempre ha gozado de buena salud, en la actualidad este género no es tan relevante como lo fuera antaño, quizá debido a los problemas que muchas compañías japonesas han tenido recientemente adaptándose a las nuevas plataformas de sobremesa y exigencias de un nuevo público con nuevos gustos, y al auge que ha vivido el RPG occidental con títulos como Fable, Oblivion, Skyrim o Fallout 3, en la época de los 8, 16 y los 32 bits el JRPG fue uno de los géneros más prominentes de la industria de los videojuegos, y en él encontramos varios títulos que han logrado convertirse en clásicos de la industria, tales como Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, Illusion of Time, Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden, Vagrant Story, Wild Arms o la serie Tales Of entre muchísimos otros. Como decía, en la actualidad el género no disfruta de la popularidad masiva de la que una vez disfrutó, quedando relegado a un segundo plano a excepción de algunos titanes que aún consiguen captar la atención de la prensa y el gran público, como es el caso de Final Fantasy y Kingdom Hearts, aunque esto no ha evitado que el género siguiese produciendo juegos interesantes de vez en cuando, sobre todo en las plataformas portátiles, que parecen haberse convertido en el nuevo hogar adoptivo de este tipo de títulos, lo cual es especialmente cierto en el caso de Nintendo DS, consola que ha recibido varias de las últimas entregas de afamadas series como los mencionados Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Valkyrie Profile y Suikoden, y es precisamente en la portátil de Nintendo donde encontramos el juego del que quiero hablaros en esta nueva entrada. El juego en cuestión se llama Nostalgia.
