Hello everyone! Boy time surely flies… It seems it was just yesterday when the new year started, and we are already all the way into February… Anyway, for the first (rather late) entry of this new year I bring you a shot of pure “neoretro” gaming. The game is called Battle Chasers Nightwar. Have you ever wonder how it would be to mix the dungeons and looting of Diablo with the turn-based combats of traditional JRPG games? Es increíble lo rápido que pasa el tiempo… Parece que fue justo ayer cuando estaba celebrado la entrada del nuevo año, y ya estamos en febrero… En fin , para la primera entrada de este nuevo año os traigo un chute de “neoretro” del bueno. Hello everyone! How is the summer going so far? Good? I hope you are using your precious (and well-deserved) holidays to play all the those games you had pending (well, and to go to the beach or party with your friends, you know, all those pointless secondary things we gamers have to do from time to time to pretend to be social creatures like the rest). In this new entry I´m going to talk about a JRPG game that was released a few months back in the west. The game is called Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky. Hello everyone! Happy New Year! I know, I know, a bit late, but the start of the new year was a bit hectic for me… So how is the new year treating you so far? All good? Did you try already Owlboy, the classic style 2D adventure of which I talked about in the last entry? If you still haven´t, I strongly recommended you to do so, especially if you like 2D adventures. Just like I finished last year talking about a very special game (or at least very special for me), I decided to start this new year talking about other special game, a game that drew my attention right from the first time I saw it, especially due to its similarities with some of the titles of one of my favorite developers, my beloved Vanillaware. In this blog I have already talked about several JRPG games such as Nostalgia, Sands of Destruction, Crimson Gem Saga, Legend of Legacy or Suikoden Tierkreis, and Tactic JRPG game such as Luminous Arc, Valkyrie Profile, Onimusha Tactics, Mercenaries Saga 2 or Vanguard Bandits, but this time around I´m going to talk about a game that mixes elements from both styles, and event elements from table top games and management games, to create it´s very own style. The game is called Grand Kingdom. Let´s see what this new jewel of the JRPG genre has to offer.

¡Hola a tod@s! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Un poco tarde, lo sé, pero he tenido un inicio de año algo ajetreado... ¿Qué tal vuestro inicio de año? ¿Habéis echado a volar ya con Owlboy, la aventura en 2D de corte clásico de la que hablé en la última entrada? Si no es así, os recomiendo que lo hagáis, sobre todo si sois amantes de las aventuras en 2D. Al igual que acabé el año hablando de un juego especial (al menos para mí), he decidido empezar este nuevo año hablando de otro juego muy especial, un juego que al igual que Owlboy me llamó la atención desde el primer momento que lo vi, sobre todo por su gran parecido a otros títulos de una de mis desarrolladoras favoritas: mi amada Vanillaware. En este blog he hablado ya de varios JRPG como Nostalgia, Sands of Destruction, Crimson Gem Saga, Legend of Legacy o Suikoden Tierkreis, y varios Tactic JRPG como Luminous Arc, Valkyrie Profile, Onimusha Tactics, Mercenaries Saga 2 o Vanguard Bandits, pero en esta ocasión traigo un juego que mezcla elementos de ambos estilos, e incluso elementos de juegos de tablero y juegos de gestión, para crear un juego con un estilo muy propio. El juego en cuestión se llama Grand Kingdom. Veamos qué nos ofrece esta nueva joya del rol japonés.

Hello everyone! Did you try already Momodora, the charming Metroidvania game I talked about in the last entry? If you haven’t, I really commend you to give it a try, especially if you like classic style games. Actually, for this new entry I’m going to talk about yet another classic style game that, despite having been released pretty recently, it could have been released during the 32-bit era, a game that we can find inside Nintendo’s latest handheld system, the Nintendo 3DS, for Nintendo’s portable platform seems to be aiming to become the “new house of the JRPG,” just like its predecessor, the Nintendo DS, did before. The game is called The Legend of Legacy. Let´s see what this little tribute to classic JRPG games has to offer.

¡Hola a todos! ¿Habéis probado ya Momodora, el Metroidvania del que hablé en la última entrada? Si no lo habéis hecho aún, os lo recomiendo encarecidamente, sobre todo si os gustan los juegos de estilo clásico. Y hablando de juegos de estilo clásico, para esta entrada os traigo otro título que, a pesar de haber sido lazando recientemente, también podría haber sido lanzado perfectamente en la generación de los 32 bits y que pertenece al catálogo de Nintendo 3DS, y es que la portátil de Nintendo parece empeñada en convertirse la “nueva casa de acogida” del JRPG al igual que hiciera antes su predecesora. Hello everyone! How are the beatings going with Aquapazza, the 2D fighting game of which I talked about in the last entry? In this new entry we are going to travel back in time no more and no less than 20 years to talk about a game that belongs to the 32-bit era and that achieved the cult status through the years after its release, eventually being re-released as a downloadable game for the PS3. En esta nueva entrada vamos a viajar atrás en el tiempo, casi 20 años ni nada ni nada menos, para hablar de un juego perteneciente a la era de los 32 bits y que alcanzó el estatus de culto en los años posteriores a su lanzamiento, y que hace un par de años fue relanzado para PS3 a través del sistema de descargas digitales de la plataforma. Hello everyone! How is the brawling going with Under Night? After the last entry dedicated to French Bread’s fighting game, in this new entry we are going to go back to the Tactic RPG genre with a game that might have gone undetected for many of you. Nowadays it’s impossible to deny that the download services have become an essential part of the industry, allowing many companies to release their games without having to face all the “buts” you might find when showing your game to the big editors, thus allowing the players to enjoy some gaming jewels that other ways might have made its way to the market, such as Castle Crashers, Limbo, Braid, Child of Light or Valiant Hearts among many others. Although it is true that most of these titles are released for the trinity composed of Xbox LIVE, PlayStation Network and the almighty Steam, from time to time we can also find certain gaming jewels in other download services, like the case of Azure Striker Gunvolt, a game of which I already talked a few entries back in this blog and that was only available in the Nintendo 3D’s eShop (although later on the game made its way also to Steam), and it’s precisely in Nintendo’s download service where we can find the game I want to talk about in this entry. The game is called Mercenaries Saga 2: Order of the Silver Eagle. Let’s see what this little downloadable title has to offer.

¡Hola a tod@s! ¿Qué tal van las ensaladas de hostias con Under Night? Tras la última entrada dedicada al juego de combates de French Bread, en esta nueva entrada vamos a volver al género de Tactic RPG con un juego que quizá haya pasado desapercibido para muchos. Hoy en día es imposible negar que las plataformas de descarga digital se han convertido en una parte esencial de la industria, permitiendo a muchas compañías lanzar sus títulos sin tener que enfrentarse a todas la trabas que puede suponer proponer tu juego a las grandes editoras, lo cual está permitiendo a los jugadores disfrutar de algunas joyas que, de no haber sido por este tipo de plataformas, quizá nunca hubieran visto la luz, como por ejemplo Castle Crashers, Limbo, Braid, Child of Light o Valiant Hearts entre muchos otros. Aunque es cierto que la mayoría de estos títulos suelen llegar a través de la “santísima trinidad” compuesta por Xbox LIVE, PlayStation Network y el todopoderoso Steam, de vez en cuando también podemos encontrar ciertas joyas en otras plataformas de descarga, como, por ejemplo, Azure Striker Gunvolt, juego del que ya hablé en este blog y que en su momento estuvo disponible en exclusiva la eShop de Nintendo 3DS (aunque más tarde el juego también acabaría llegando a Steam), y es precisamente en el servicio de descarga digital de la exitosa portátil de Nintendo donde podremos encontrar el juego del que hablaré en esta entrada. Hello everyone! Here I come with yet one more entry of my blog. After the game inspired in the tale of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms from the last entry, in this entry we are going to switch back once again to the Tactic RPG genre, and just like with Tingle´s Rosy Rupeeland and Valyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume, I’m going to talk about a game that belongs to a relatively well-known series in the industry (although it has been missing for quite a few years now) and that went relatively unnoticed at the moment of its released. However, I do believe the game had enough equality to be considered as one of the best titles in the genre at the moment. The game is called Onimusha Tactics. Let’s see what this Tactic RPG game based on Capcom’s popular samurai and demon franchise has to offer.

Tras el juego de combates inspirado en la historia del Romance de los Tres Reinos del que os hablé en la última entrada, para esta nueva vamos a cambiar de nuevo de género y vamos a volver una vez más al género del rol táctico con un juego que, al igual que en los casos de Tingle´s Rosy Rupeeland y Valyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume, pertenece a otra saga de cierto renombre en la industria a pesar de llevar ya unos años completamente desaparecida, y que en su momento fue eclipsado por otras sagas mucho más consagradas, no obstante, opino que el juego atesoraba la suficiente calidad como para tenerle en cuenta como uno de los mejores representantes del género en su momento. El juego en cuestión se llama Onimusha Tactics. Veamos qué nos ofrece juego de rol táctico inspirado en el universo de la franquicia de samuráis y demonios de Capcom.

Hello everyone! How are the combats going with the game from the last entry? A couple of entries back I talked about the Banner Saga, a tactical RPG game inspired on the Scandinavian folklore, and in this new entry I´m going to talk about yet another game based in the North European myth and legends, however, this time around we will do with a story told from a Japanese point of view. In fact, this game belong to one of the most veteran JRPG series, and, although in this blog I try no talk about popular series, just like in the case of Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, in this case we are talking about a game that, despite belonging to a reputed series, the platform and time in which the game was released probably made it go unnoticed for many players despite the title´s quality. The game is called Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume. Let´s see what this little great game has to offer.

¡Hola a tod@s! ¿Qué tal van los combates con el juego de la última entrada? Un par de entradas atrás os hablé sobre The Banner Saga, un juego de rol estratégico inspirado en la mitología escandinava, y en esta nueva entrada voy a hablaros de otro juego de rol táctico inspirado también en los mitos y leyendas del norte de Europa, solo que en esta ocasión lo haremos con una historia nórdica contada a la japonesa. De hecho, es un juego que pertenece a una de las sagas de rol más veteranas y consagradas del país nipón, y aunque en este blog no suelo hablar sobre sagas consagradas, al igual que pasaba con Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, en este caso se trata de un juego que a pesar de pertenecer a una reputada franquicia, la plataforma a la que fue destinado y la época en la que fue lanzado hicieron que quizá pasara desapercibido para muchos jugadores a pesar de la gran calidad que atesoraba el título.
