Hello everyone! How is the street fighting going with River City Ransom Underground? I hope the “retro dose” of the last entries left you wanting more, because in this new entry I’m going to talk about yet another game that uses a classic style gameplay and adapts it to the current times. Do you like the Metroidvania games? Does the idea of insect knights in a world that seems to have come out straight from one of Tim Burton’s gothic style animation movies sound attractive to you? If the answer is yes, keep reading, for this game is definitely for you. Espero que la reciente “dosis de retro” os haya dejado con ganas de más, porque en esta nueva entrada voy a hablar de otro juego que hace uso de un estilo clásico y lo adapta los nuevos tiempos. ¿Os gustan los Metroidvania? ¿Os gustaría jugar una aventura con insectos guerreros en un mundo que parece sacado directamente de una película de animación de Tim Burton? Hello everyone! Did you try already Alwa’s Awakening, the retro style Metroidvania game I talked about in the last entry? If you haven’t and you like classic style adventures, I strongly suggest you to give it a try. Speaking retro games, I’m sure some of you just can’t get enough of this kind of games (I surely can’t!), so in order not to interrupt the “retro flow” of the last entries, in this entry I’m going to talk about another retro style game that will surely bring some good memories to all the veteran button mashers out there, for this time around is not just a game that pays tribute to the classics, but more like a direct sequel of a franchise that has the honor of being the franchise that set many of the guidelines to follow for the whole Beat ‘Em Up genre, and that’s saying a lot, for its one of the genres that ruled during the arcades golden era and has managed to survive till the current times of HD and FPS madness. Which is the game you say? Well, the game is no more and no less than River City Ramson Undeground. Yes, you read well. The Japanese gangs classic is back, and just in case someone had any doubts, I can already advance you that it came back big time, so if you are a fan of the adventures of Alex and Ryan, I recommend you to keep reading, and if you are not a fan and you don’t even know what the hell is River City Ramson, I recommend you to keep reading too, for you will discover the origin of many of the modern classics you might be playing, such as Devil May Cry, God of War or the recent and awesome Nier: Automata.

¡Hola a tod@s! ¿Qué tal van las aventuras clásicas con Alwa´s Awakening, el Metroidvania de estilo retro del que hablé en la última entrada? Seguro que muchos nunca os cansáis de este tipo de juegos (¡yo por lo menos no!), así que para no cortar el “rollo retro” de las últimas entradas, en esta nueva entrada voy a hablar de otro juego de estilo retro al que seguro que mucho de los jugones más veteranos podrán recordar, pues a diferencia de las entradas anteriores, no se trata de un juego que rinde homenaje a los clásicos, sino de una secuela directa de una franquicia que tiene el honor de ser la franquicia que sentó todas las bases de un género tan popular como el género Beat ´Em Up, uno de los géneros que dominaron la edad de oro de los salones recreativos y que ha perdurado hasta la actualidad. ¿Qué de quién estoy hablando? Pues de River City Ramson Undeground. Sí, habéis leído bien, el clásico de pandilleros japoneses ha vuelto, y por si alguien tenía alguna duda, ya os puedo adelantar que lo ha hecho a lo grande, así que si sois fans de la aventuras de los macarras Alex y Ryan, os recomiendo que sigáis leyendo, y si no lo sois y ni siquiera sabéis qué carajo es River City Ramson, os animo a seguir leyendo igualmente, ya que podréis descubrir el origen de muchos de los juegos de acción que podríais estar jugando hoy día como Devil May Cry, God of War o el reciente y soberbio Nier: Automata.

Hello everyone! How are the combats against aliens going with Earth’s Dawn? After a few hectic weeks, I’m coming with an entry in which I will talk about a modern game made the “old fashioned way”. In this blog I have talked already about games such Oniken, Odallus: The Dark Call, Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight or Owlboy, games that, just like the awesome Shovel Knight, belong to that recent trend of games that imitate the 8/16-bit classics and that are being so well received by the gaming community, proving that there is still a place for this kind of games in the market, and in this new entry I’m going to talk about another game that, despite not being as popular the above mentioned Shovel Knight or the also awesome Hyper Light Drifter, also manages to deliver a good retro gaming experience adapted to the current times that manages to transmit all the magic of the classics of the 80s. The game is called Castle in the Darkness. Let’s see what the little gem of the indie gaming scene has to offer.

¡Hola a tod@s! ¿Qué tal van los combates contra los alienígenas de Earth´s Dawn? Después de unas semanas algo ajetreadas, vuelvo con una entrada en la que hablaré de otro juego moderno “hecho como los de antes”. En este blog ya he hablado de juegos como Oniken, Odallus: The Dark Call, Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight u Owlboy, juegos que al igual que el fantástico Shovel Knight, pertenecen a esa reciente oleada de juegos que imitan a los clásicos de los 8/16 bits y que tan buena aceptación están teniendo entre los fans, demostrando que aún hay espacio para este tipo de títulos en el mercado, y en esta nueva entrada os traigo otro juego que quizá no ha hecho tanto ruido como el mencionado Shovel Knight o el también genial Hyper Light Drifter, pero que también ofrece una experiencia retro adaptada a los tiempos que corren que supura calidad y amor por lo retro por todos y cada uno de sus píxeles. Hello everyone! Happy New Year! I know, I know, a bit late, but the start of the new year was a bit hectic for me… So how is the new year treating you so far? All good? Did you try already Owlboy, the classic style 2D adventure of which I talked about in the last entry? If you still haven´t, I strongly recommended you to do so, especially if you like 2D adventures. Just like I finished last year talking about a very special game (or at least very special for me), I decided to start this new year talking about other special game, a game that drew my attention right from the first time I saw it, especially due to its similarities with some of the titles of one of my favorite developers, my beloved Vanillaware. In this blog I have already talked about several JRPG games such as Nostalgia, Sands of Destruction, Crimson Gem Saga, Legend of Legacy or Suikoden Tierkreis, and Tactic JRPG game such as Luminous Arc, Valkyrie Profile, Onimusha Tactics, Mercenaries Saga 2 or Vanguard Bandits, but this time around I´m going to talk about a game that mixes elements from both styles, and event elements from table top games and management games, to create it´s very own style. The game is called Grand Kingdom. Let´s see what this new jewel of the JRPG genre has to offer.

¡Hola a tod@s! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Un poco tarde, lo sé, pero he tenido un inicio de año algo ajetreado... ¿Qué tal vuestro inicio de año? ¿Habéis echado a volar ya con Owlboy, la aventura en 2D de corte clásico de la que hablé en la última entrada? Si no es así, os recomiendo que lo hagáis, sobre todo si sois amantes de las aventuras en 2D. Al igual que acabé el año hablando de un juego especial (al menos para mí), he decidido empezar este nuevo año hablando de otro juego muy especial, un juego que al igual que Owlboy me llamó la atención desde el primer momento que lo vi, sobre todo por su gran parecido a otros títulos de una de mis desarrolladoras favoritas: mi amada Vanillaware. En este blog he hablado ya de varios JRPG como Nostalgia, Sands of Destruction, Crimson Gem Saga, Legend of Legacy o Suikoden Tierkreis, y varios Tactic JRPG como Luminous Arc, Valkyrie Profile, Onimusha Tactics, Mercenaries Saga 2 o Vanguard Bandits, pero en esta ocasión traigo un juego que mezcla elementos de ambos estilos, e incluso elementos de juegos de tablero y juegos de gestión, para crear un juego con un estilo muy propio. The New Year is already just around the corner, and you can feel all the “magic” typical of this special season, so for this new entry I’m going to talk about a very special game, a game that caught all my attention right from the first time I saw it a few years back. The game is called Owlboy. Let’s see what this new pixel marvel has to offer after a long and difficult development process that took almost a decade to complete.

El nuevo año está ya a la vuelta de la esquina, y en todas partes se puede sentir ya esa “magia” típica de estas fechas tan especiales, así que en esta entrada voy a hablar de un juego muy especial, un juego que también tiene su propia magia, un juego al que no he podido quitarle el ojo de encima desde la primera vez que lo vi. Ese juego se llama Owlboy. Veamos qué nos ofrece esta nueva maravilla pixelada que llega hasta nosotros tras un largo y tortuoso desarrollo de casi un década.

If you love the Zelda series as much as the Finnish team seems to do, you should definitely give it a try. In this new entry I’m going to go back to the 2D fighting genre with a game that can be found among the catalogue of Sony’s legendary PlayStation 2. The game is called (catch your breath) Shin Goketsuji Ichizoku: Bonnou Kaihou. Let’s see what this wacky game hidden in the endless sea of titles available for Sony’s multimillion-selling machine has to offer.
